An Introduction to Ellen Hobson - Our Just Togs Ambassador

Written by

Hello, my name is Ellen Hobson, I am an 18 year old, young event rider based at York. I have been riding since I was 6 years old and I'm currently part way through my 6th season of affiliated eventing.

I currently have two event horses, Oxmountain Flyer (Finnegan) and the recently retired Kidogo King. On both horses I have competed up to BE Intermediate, and last year Kidogo and I were selected to compete at Millstreet International, Ireland, as a part of the GB Youth Development Squad.

Currently my main focus is Finnegan, who I brought over from Ireland as a very green dark bay 7 year old 2 years ago. I decided to buy Finnegan as at the start of this season I had to make the tough decision to retire Kidogo, who I had been competing for 3 seasons and placed up to Intermediate on.

This season has been interesting to say the least. With events cancelled left, right and centre at the start, we were lucky enough to compete at Lincoln Novice u18; although Finnegan and I had multiple Horse and Hound features for doing XC in a snow blizzard before the event was abandoned! This year Finnegan has stepped up the levels again, starting his International career at Great Witchingham CIC* where he went double clear and placed 11th. Shortly after Richmond Intermediate in May, we took a break from eventing during my A level exams, but came back out eventing at Aston-le-walls Novice where went went double clear on 32.5. Although my rustiness was shown when I accidentally took a detour XC picking up time faults so dropping us from the placings.

The highlight of our season so far was competing Finnegan in his first 3 day CCI* in the National U18 Championships , where we were members of the Northern team finishing team 6th, with a double clear!

Frickley was also exciting in another aspect as it was my first chance to wear my smart new OneK hat by Just Togs. The reason I particularly love this addition is because it's suede-like sides are very smart, but the central strip makes it stand out a bit more due to the navy glitter pattern. Also, I got to wear my new Kensington long black boots, which have a sticky grip on the inner leg that offer some great extra support for my leg position.

I have also really enjoyed riding in what I genuinely believe are the comfiest jodhpurs I have ever worn; the Just Togs riding tights. They work particularly well for me as they have a handy phone pocket on the outer leg, which is great for when I go riding out by myself.

Hopefully we have 2 more events left, Allerton Novice and Osberton International CCI. However the day after Osberton, Finnegan and I will be moving down to Oxford where I start my first term at Oxford University, which will bring a whole new area of events for us to take on. Hopefully we will be able to trial for the University equestrian teams!
